  • SAN FRANCISCO – Filipino nurses joined a protest in front of the headquarters of one of the biggest health insurance providers in the country.

Their message: stop raising rates, especially when people can barely afford health care.

Members of the California Nurses Association held a picket in front of Blue Shield’s San Francisco office, protesting the company’s plan to spike health care coverage rates up to 59% for individuals.

They said out of all the major insurers, Blue Shield is the only one that refuses to delay premium increases.

Protesters said Blue Shield denied 2 million patient claims last year.

They said the only way to end this health care tyranny is Obama’s health care reform–to take the control away from abusive health care companies.

As a response to the protest, Blue Shield said it would comply with Commissioner Dave Jones request to delay for 60 days the rate increases that were scheduled for March 1.
